I chose this issue, because I found this topic very interesting. I do not really have any personal connections to this but I have been through something kind of similar. HIV/Aids is a very serious matter young girls and boys are not aware of this as much as they should , but yet we are the ones that's getting affected by it more and more everyday. According to www.teens.drugabuse.gov "Young people are at risk for contracting HIV and developing AIDS.CDC estimates that in 2011, more than 10,000 young people ,age 13 to 14 ,were diagnosed with HIV, and over 2,900 had been diagnosed with AIDS in the USA(HIV, AIDS, and Drug Abuse.). I was an victim of contracting an disease at an young age I was 16 years old when I was diagnosed when an std. I never in a million years thought that I would have an disease, let alone be taking medication for a week to cure it. I was crying, mad, and scared, because I didnt know what to do or who to tell I was scared to parents. Although my mom knew I was sexually active I didn't know how to come to her and tell her I had an disease let alone to tell her I was having unprotected sex with my boyfriend at the time. I was scared that people were going to judge me, because here I was in the statistics of being a young African American girl 16 years old, sexually active with an std. I didn't know who to trust especially the guy that gave me the std I didn't know how to tell him I have an std and that he was the only guy that could have gave it to me, because he was the only guy I have ever had sex with. Of course when I told him that I was contracted with the STD he blamed it on me and said that I have given it to him which was not true at all. What my project is about raising awareness on STDs, but our main focus is HIV/AIDs, because for those out there who are sexually active please get tested even if you think or know you trust your spouse you should always be sure, because I went into the clinic thinking oh I know I dont have an STD I just want to be sure and it turned out that I did. NO I am not happy that I have experienced this but I am happy that I was smart enough to go get tested before it gotten worse. NO I did not have any symptoms which is why I was surprised that I had an STD.

I chose this issue because many people are not aware that HIV/Aids are a very big issue is our community an around the world. many people think that HIV/Aids is just around adult an that they are the ones that have it but that's not true there are many young teenagers that haven't even lived there life that is being affected by HIV/Aids. Many young teenagers between the age 15-24. According to www.womendeliver.org/knowledge-center/facts-figures/hiv-and-aids/.this site have the information that is being talked about an how young girls have HiIHuman Immunodeficiency Virus, more commonly referred to as HIV, takes on approximately 50, 000 new victims each year (is known to t in low income neighborhoods has had a devastating toll on communities on people who live in poverty. This subject matters because most people do not know that Hiv has a high risk and that our younger folk are not aware that the disease has a big effect on our life and our community.
I chose to conduct research on HIV and the effect it has on low income neighborhoods because many people don’t advocate about the disease and why the numbers in these communities have risen. i hope to accomplish that many people should be more careful because having hiv is a serious disease.
